Tess of the d’Urbervilles – Live in Trantridge
July 21, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Tess returns home to Trantridge…
We are very pleased to announce the live performance of Tess of the d’Urbervilles by SISATA Open Air Theatre Group right here in Pentridge!
Pentridge, like many Dorset villages, has a strong connection to Thomas Hardy. Hardy was said to have stayed here in Pentridge for some time and was inspired to create his own Pentridge, known as ‘Trantridge’ especially for Tess. This makes the performance of Tess of the d’Urbervilles here in Hardy’s Trantridge, incredibly special!
About the performance
Adapted and directed by Charmaine K Parkin
Part of the Theatre Fest West 2016
Four actors play multiple roles in what is an enigmatic and fast paced telling of virtue, love and injustice, but above all the impact of this on the human condition.
Bringing to life the Wessex of the past and honouring the beautiful countryside where the story takes place, whilst also highlighting the timeless issues that this story presents. However, in true SISATA style there will still be fun, interaction, laughter and song to tie together this heart-breaking tale.

SISATA
SISATA was created out of our passion for Shakespeare, making theatre accessible and the Swanage Amphitheatre. Starting out with just a week’s run at this spectacular site in the Prince Albert Gardens in 2012 we have since grown and our annual show now tours to various locations and theatres across the South of England. Adapting to each location, we hope to bring classic stories alive and enable audiences to come enjoy, learn and laugh at our work and the worlds we inhabit.
We bring to life classic texts adapted for four actors; producing energetic, fun and playful pieces of theatre which are suitable for all ages. We want our audiences to be part of storytelling that is enthralling and stimulating.
This year SISATA is making the bold move away from Shakespeare to tackle a classic novel, which is rooted in the same beautiful countryside as the company. We bring you our version of Thomas Hardy’s infamous novel Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

Where doe’s the money go?
This event is held to raise funds for Pentridge Village Hall.
Our Village Hall is a former school with an abundance of character. For the past few years, funds have been raised (including grants from the National Lottery and other sources) to enable the loving restoration and refurbishment of this historic building.
Recent works on the hall have included restorative structural work, a new oak floor, soft furnishings, a new kitchen and a disabled toilet. Fundraising has also enabled the purchase of new chairs and tables and a current outbuilding project for the purposes of storage.
The hall is now available to use as a community building and for private hire. Activities and events are run by volunteers and fundraising efforts are in place to enable continued renovation, upkeep and maintenance on the hall and adjoining school house.
